The James Beard Foundation’s (JBF) third consecutive Taste America®: “Local Flavor from Coast To Coast” takes place in Chicago on Friday, October 23 to Saturday, October 24. This national epicurean tour visits ten American cities this fall spanning six weekends between September 18 and November 7, 2015. Each city will enjoy a special evening that starts off with a walk-around tasting reception from a lineup of celebrated local chefs, followed by a one-of-a-kind, four-course dinner crafted in collaboration with a Taste America All-Star and a Local Star chef. Chicago’s weekend-long Taste America itinerary kicks off on Friday, October 23 at The Geraghty with A Night of Culinary Stars, an exclusive dining event benefiting the James Beard Foundation. The evening begins with a reception filled with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from local chefs and restaurateurs, including James Beard Award nominees Tanya Baker (The Boarding House; Chicago) and Paul Virant (Vie; Western Springs, IL), James Beard Award semifinalists Ryan McCaskey (Acadia; Chicago) and Paul Fehribach (Big Jones; Chicago) as well as Host Chef Devon Quinn (Paramount Events; Chicago). Afterwards, guests will be seated for an extraordinary dinner prepared by James Beard Award-winning chef and Taste America All-Star Mark Ladner (Del Posto; NYC) and Taste America Local Stars, James Beard Award nominees Beverly Kim and John Clark (Parachute; Chicago) along with Taste America Pastry Chefs and James Beard Award semifinalists Dave and Megan Miller (Baker Miller; Chicago), who will all collaborate to create a unique and unforgettable one-night-only menu. The evening will also feature Guest Emcees and James Beard Award winners, Steve Dolinsky (ABC 7 Chicago) and Chef Rick Bayless (Frontera Grill, Topolobompo, Xoco; Chicago).
On Saturday, October 24, free in-store consumer events will take place at Sur La Table® located at 900 North Michigan Avenue. Activities of the day will include cooking demos by All-Star Mark Ladner and Chef Tanya Baker, an artisan tasting from West Loop Salumi, as well as product demos and tastings from national sponsors Lifeway Foods, Breville® and Nespresso®.
