While we’ll always have a soft spot for big beauty chains like Sephora, there’s something to be said for picking up an obscure, indie, or foreign beauty find at a place that’s equally intriguing. Well, good news. Chicago has a new place for the product obsessed. Madison Hall—the latest project from retailers Lance Lawson and Jim Wetzel of space519—opened up in the renovated Chicago Athletic Association Hotel in July, and trust us when we say that its impressive inventory of off-the-radar goods will have you making some extra space in your lipstick drawer.
Occupying two storefronts along the hotel's Madison Street entrance (hence the name), Madison Hall has an East space for gents and a West space for the ladies—literally the original Ladies’ Lounge in the all-male club. The classy, old-school, prewar-like boutique boasts a fragrance counter, a well-curated selection of women’s accessories, and, of course, beauty products. Ahead, co-owner Jim Wetzel selects his top five off-the-radar picks to include in your fall primping routine.
