Black! Yes, that's right. According to Donna Hall of Donna Mondi Interior Design, the hottest kitchen and dining trend for 2016 has gone over to the dark side. “Yes, going from the traditional white trend to black may seem like night and day, but, bringing black into the kitchen is a great way to add depth and drama," said Hall.
But if you're worried that adding black will result in a home that rivals the Addam's family, here are three easy ways to incorporate this trend in 2016 that are guaranteed to look classy, elegant, and yes, even cheerful!
High Contrast: With black cabinets and white counter tops, you can either use stainless steel appliances and pick up the silver tones in your lighting and cabinet hardware or go with cabinet fronts on the appliances and add brushed gold hardware and lighting for a twist. Add in some color on your bar stools and accessories to keep it interesting.
Glamour: Black-on-black gold is a winner when you want to go glam. The high shine of the lacquered cabinets lets the light bounce around the room. Light fixtures for this kitchen should be sculptural and dynamic. Metal starbursts or decadent crystal chandeliers would be perfect!
Vintage Lovers: Retro appliances have never been more popular. Pair a black 1950s-style refrigerator with natural, medium-toned wood cabinets and honed black marble counter tops. Mobile-style vintage inspired lighting would set the tone for this modern flashback.
