Local Mom Helps Other Moms Feed their Babies the Best
Ashley Rossi, CEO of OrgaNums
When Ashley Rossi was growing up, she had a passion to help end homelessness and hunger. A few decades later, as CEO of the small batch, cold-pressed tiny human food company, OrgaNums, she is acting on that passion.
Rossi hopes OrgaNums’ success will help drive a foundation that was partly inspired by one of her heroes, Chicagoan Chris Gardner’s story told in the movie The Pursuit of Happyness.“If I needed to experience the struggles that I’ve had in order to be able to empathize and help others, then I’m happy to have gone through it”, said Rossi.
OrgaNums began when Rossi, now 30, had trouble finding the right food for her youngest son, Luca. By the time she had Luca, she had learned about processed foods after having taken an environmental biology class in college.
“Baby foods processed in ultra high temperatures have lost their nutrients and flavor,” Rossi said.
So Rossi set out to make her own healthier baby food, and came up with OrgaNums.
Instead of using heat to remove potentially-harmful bacteria, OrgaNums is made with a cold-press (or HPP).
“This allows for much higher vitamin/nutrient contents and true flavors,” Rossi said.
OrgaNums has many flavors, including organic apple, sweet potato, green beans, carrot, pumpkin and carrot/apple, all of which have zero additives, preservatives and artificial colors or flavors.
“We combine single-ingredient recipes and duo-ingredient recipes so that parents can help develop their tiny human's palate, making them more likely to appreciate their fruits and veggies,” Rossi said. “We offer an honest, clean product that parents can trust.”
In addition to retail, Rossi will be selling the foods online. All of her products have been taste-approved by her source of inspiration – Luca.
