"The King's Platter" at Lowcountry

Mardi Gras Chaser 5K/10K
If you're not big into going out for drinks, or if you just want to keep up on that healthy New Years resolution, then shake the winter blues and be apart for the most festive race to ever hit Montrose Harbor - the Back on My Feet Chicago’s Mardi Gras Chaser 5/10K. Let the good times roll at the ONLY 10k in the first quarter! There will be masks, music and motivation. Race registration is $40 for 5K, and $45 for 10K. After the race, there will be an after party at the Fat Cat, where every runner will receive a free beer and a $15 New Orleans style food buffet.

Baking Class: Beignets for Mardi Gras
Have you ever wanted to take a baking class, or just interested in making beignets? This hands-on baking class at Read It & Eat will teach a number of valuable skills that will make Mardi Gras and any future celebration a success. Learn recipes and techniques for two of the holiday's most famous treats: Galette des Rois and beignets. Students will gain frying-at-home doughnut prowess and discover the secret to hiding le fève (a little surprise -- if found, you are king for the day!) inside the King's Cake. Everyone can also enjoy one of New Orleans' most famed cocktails, a French 75 (champagne, gin, lemon). Registration is $65 per person.

Charity Crawfish Eating Contest
Think you have what it takes to be king or queen of the crawfish eaters in Chicago? Find out at Cactus Bar & Grill's 7th annual Fat Tuesday crawfish eating contest! Competitors in this friendly contest will consume three pounds of crawfish in the fastest time possible. All proceeds, including the $20 entrance fee, will benefit New Leash on Life, a Chicago-based volunteer dog rescue.

Mardi Gras themed menu at Trader Todd's
Trader Todd’s is bringing New Orleans to Chicago with their week-long Mardi Gras menu from February 27th through March 5th. This menu was curated by their executive chef, Mark Hill, and features the rich flavors of Mardi Gras. The menu will feature New Orleans themed foods like, Shrimp Po Boy, Boudin Blanc Sausage, and Fettuccine Pasta. If you or a friend don't eat meat, Trader Todd's offers, Vegan Dirty Rice.
