The Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade
Our city is home to quite the St. Patrick's Day celebration! Celebrate the 62nd Anniversary of one of the largest St. Patrick's Day Parades in the country. The annual downtown St. Patrick's Day Parade celebrates the patron saint of Ireland and the rich Irish heritage found within the city. The Chicago River turns green once a year, as 45 pounds of vegetable dye color the water. Festivities continue throughout the day as revelers parade up Columbus Dr. with floats and flags to the sound of bagpipes.
When: Chicago river dyeing: 9:00am. Parade: 12:00pm, March 11th.

Get ShamROCKED at the Hard Rock Cafe
Kick off St. Patrick’s Day weekend with Hard Rock Cafe’s Get ShamROCKED preview party, with a special performance from The Hat Guys on Friday, March 10th from 8-10 p.m. The Hat Guys entertain with a number of favorite modern day and classic hits. On Saturday, March 11th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., continue the celebration with live music from The Hat Guys and bagpipe performances from the Chicago Pipe Band and The Shannon Rivers. Admission is free. There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door on Saturday. All donations benefit Misericordia, a Chicago-based non-profit organization that provides a continuum of care for 600 children and adults with developmental disabilities, many of whom are physically challenged.

Create a St. Patrick's Day Inspired Cocktails
Love the Irish? Celebrate the glorious day of St. Patrick by joining Hollow Leg for Irish-style cocktails and everything green! In this hands-on class, you'll be playing around with four different liquors (whiskey, tequila, gin, and vodka) and an array of hand-crafted mixers and bitters to create a delicious creation. Hollow Leg will walk you through the art and science of mixology in its most basic form, from tasting and exploring flavour pairings to dilution, temperature, mixing, and serving. By the end of class, you'll have the liquid confidence to go forth with Julia Child-like conviction and be an at-home mixologist! Tickets range from $55-$80.

St. Patrick's Day River Viewing Party
Not one for the close proximity of crowds, loud people, or trying to avoid someone spilling on you? Witness the tradition of dyeing the Chicago River green for St. Patrick’s Day directly above it all at, Raised Bar. Savor in the authentic local Irish food and drink package that includes: house made biscuits, tater tot poutine made with Guinness braised corned beef, egg sandwiches and more. This deal includes draft beer, as well as $5 Jameson and Pickle Back shots. Have access to one of the best views on one of the biggest days in Chicago, all while avoiding the large crowd. Tickets are $50.

Leprechaun Leap 5k/8k
Do you not enjoy drinking on St. Patty's day? No worries! If fitness is your friend, be a part of the 16th annual Leprechaun Leap! Burn some calories before heading downtown for the parade at the Leprechaun Leap, which benefits the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Winding through Lincoln Park, the race features plenty of green attire as well as a seasonal costume contest. Registration deadline is the 8th for $40-$50, there will be an extra fee for the morning of the race.
