Outsourcing now serves a dual purpose: it’s economical, but is also a strategic tool that will power the global economy. Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry revenue has risen steadily from $45 billion in 2000 to nearly $100 billion in 2012.
The industry projection of $220 billion by 2020 is credited to the U.S economy’s outsourcing boom: service jobs increased to 107 million, with women improving their share every year.
Concurrently, diversity and pluralism have gained in value, with major emphasis on gender equality and an increase in women in decision-making roles. And it’s not only in the U.S. where women are entering – and managing – key aspects of the expanding BPO industry.
In the EU, Romania ranked fourth in the 2015 BPO and Shared Service Location Index. Philippe Garcet, CEO of Societe Generale European Business Services, told the Business Review-EU that “more than 85% of [its] team members” are women.
In India, 33% of employees joining the $143 billion IT-BPO industry are women. With one-third of the IT-BPO workforce – about 1.23 million - now women, you should note that while the number of women in support roles has gone down from 37% to 34%, the number of women in management roles has increased proportionately.
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is home to a BPO outfit run by Tata Consultancy Services. All 1,000-plus employees are women. Overall, the number of female workers has surged by 48% since 2010.
