Just a few short weeks after announcing funding support from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to operate one of only 14 Veteran Business Outreach Centers (VBOC) nationwide, the Women's Business Development Center got even more good news. The thriving nonprofit was granted $25,000 as a part of the NBC 5 and Telemundo Chicago partnership with NBCUniversal Foundation. Three Chicago-area nonprofit organizations—WBDC, Bethel New Life Inc., and Common Threads—were awarded a total of $100,000 through the 21st Century Solutions Grant Challenge.
The grant program complements the stations’ joint "Making a Difference" initiative, created to introduce positive and inspiring stories and people to viewers across the Chicago area. “The 21st Century Solutions Grant Challenge helps our community partners implement innovative programs that will positively impact the communities we serve,” said Chris McDonnell, president and general manager, Telemundo Chicago. “We are honored and proud to partner with the NBCUniversal Foundation to support the community organizations who are taking a lead in moving our communities forward.”
The WBDC serves a nine-state Midwestern region (Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin) with WBE certification, corporate and public sector procurement opportunities, and capacity building programs.
